Mayada Anjari arrived in the United States in 2016 with her husband and four children, three years after fleeing the civil war in their hometown of Homs, Syria. With help from Rutgers and its volunteers, the family settled in New Jersey and restarted their lives in safety and stability.

As a gesture of gratitude, Mayada cooked a meal for the community that came together to help her family. That inspired a regular dinner series, which culminated in a cookbook of Mayada’s recipes and life stories. All proceeds from the sale of The Bread and Salt Between Us go to Mayada and to our Refugee Relief Fund. Learn more at www.breadandsaltbetweenus.org.
