Gabe's Music Corner:

Happy Friday! I wanted to provide you with an updated timeline for the return of our organ. Work on the organ could not begin until the sanctuary was completed.  Our organ technician, Kevin Cartwright, and his team have begun unwrapping pipework, cleaning exposed pipework, reinstallation of organ components in the chancel, and preparing for the organ console to be placed back into the chancel.

The anticipated date of the return is expected to be either November 8 or November 15. I appreciate everyone’s patience and flexibility as we’ve navigated through this. Our technicians did a wonderful job at keeping our instrument protected and maintained throughout the floor renovation!

This Sunday’s prelude, Prelude in D Major, BWV 850 by J.S. Bach, is a delightful, lighthearted piece that sounds a lot easier than played.  The right hand (treble voice) has all the moving sixteenth notes while the left hand (bass) has a continuous eighth note ostinato that accompanies throughout.  This piece comes from the Well-Tempered Clavier, Book I by J.S. Bach.  This collection contains preludes and fugues in all 24 keys, which can be played on harpsichord, piano, or organ.

Sunday’s anthems are “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God” arranged by Gordon Young, and Martin Shaw’s “With a Voice of Singing.”

Sunday's Postlude will be "Hyfrydol" arranged by Sally DeFord.  The beginning of the piece is a very peaceful introduction of the hymn tune. Switching the melody between both hands, it creates a good sense of variations to switch up each verse.  Eventually, the piece leads to one final buildup of the last verse, with an ending that matches the peacefulness of the beginning.
