Rutgers Presbyterian Church Statement on Capital Punishment

We, the Session of Rutgers Presbyterian Church, reaffirm our longstanding opposition to capital punishment.  We must also, in light of recent news from the current administration, express our outrage at the horrendous suggestion that there now be a public execution.

Even those who disagree with us and support capital punishment should acknowledge that making it a public spectacle is an abomination. It would only serve to inflame tensions and make a martyr of the person executed.

We should not be among the very few nations of the world that normalize such a travesty.
