Thursday Night Meals
The program runs every Thursday night from September through June (except for major holidays) serving between 50 – 75 iindividuals each week
Time commitment – 5pm to 7pm once or twice a month (or more if available)
Duties include setting the tables, help in organizing the meal to be served and clean up of kitchen.
Availability on Thursdays of each is requested by an email blast to the group of volunteers.
We also gather every other month or so to pre-cook meals that are then frozen for upcoming use. This is usually done by a group that is retired or have a much less regimented work schedule. If you are interested in volunteering please contact Ulla Farmer, our meal program coordinator.
Three nights each week, working with Christ & St. Stephen Episcopal Church, Rutgers hosts ten men in need of shelter who have been screened by The Partnership for the Homeless. Volunteers from Rutgers and the community stay overnight—in a safe and pleasant environment—so that the men have a nourishing meal and a comfortable place to sleep while working toward permanent housing. Contact Dermonte, our shelter coordinator, to learn more or to volunteer for an upcoming Friday or Sunday evening.
Every November, members and friends of Rutgers work with the staff and residents of Euclid Hall – a residence for formerly homeless individuals – to prepare and serve Thanksgiving dinner. Euclid Hall is sponsored by the West Side Federation for Senior and Supportive Housing.
